Initially as a Shift Transport Manager from 1993 to 1999, and then from 2009 onwards in my current role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the early days, I managed the terminal and road tanker operations. Stanlow operated a fleet of over 80 tankers, handling various types of bulk deliveries such as ground fuels, aviation fuel, LPG, and lube oil. It has been so interesting to witness Stanlow&#8217;s evolution over the years, observing changes on-site and advancements in our daily operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us a little about your career before you joined Stanlow Terminals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My career began at Shell in April 1974, where I gained valuable experience across various terminals in the UK, including Avonmouth, Newport, Swansea, Plymouth and Kingsbury. Initially working as a Tanker Scheduler and later transitioning to a Shift Manager role in Killingholme. This diverse background equipped me with a wealth of knowledge crucial to navigating the complexities of terminal operations here at Stanlow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Talk us through your day-to-day activity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Terminal Manager, my primary focus centres on ensuring the seamless and safe operation of our road terminal. With the site operational 24\/7 and a daily load of approximately 450 tankers, my responsibilities include promptly addressing any operational defects and minimising loading delays to uphold efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do you most enjoy about your role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dynamic nature of my role keeps me engaged and motivated. Every day brings new challenges, demanding quick thinking and effective problem-solving. As a manager of such a mammoth operation, fostering a proactive team culture where a &#8216;can-do&#8217; attitude prevails, is immensely important and fulfilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us about the projects you are working on?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, we&#8217;re undertaking several critical infrastructure projects within the terminal. Given the site&#8217;s history, it&#8217;s essential to modernise outdated systems. We&#8217;re replacing air compressors, upgrading safety systems, and installing a new fire alarm panel &#8211; all while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Stanlow Terminals\u2019 objective is to support the energy transition.&nbsp; Can you describe how this impacts on your role?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting the energy transition is rightly a primary objective for Stanlow Terminals. My focus at present remains on ensuring the smooth operation of the terminal, however, I actively contribute by aligning our day-to-day operations with sustainability goals. This entails implementing sustainable practices and driving innovation within our operations, as well as ensuring a smooth transition for future initiatives and projects. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What are you most proud of?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My pride stems from the professionalism and teamwork exhibited within our workplace. Notably, instances where collaborative efforts have overcome significant challenges, such as devising innovative solutions to operational issues, this highlights the resilience and expertise of my team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As my working day comes to an end, I leave site knowing that my efforts have actively contributed to the smooth functioning of critical infrastructure.
